Crete in winter

In winter there are no direct (charter) flights to Crete, but you can fly to Athens or Thessaloniki and then take a domestic flight to Chania or Heraklion. Both these cities have ferry connections with Athens. In winter the island lives in its local rythms with no tourists and the small tourist towns such as Hersonissos,Malia or Ag.Nikolaos are not quite busy, rather devastating. But you can visit the inner land with beautiful traditional villages. The island lies in the subtropical part of the Mediterranean and the winters are mild with many sunny days and average temperatures, but sometimes the winter is heavy also in Crete, with a lot of snow in the mountains. The temperatures are slightly higher in the South Crete.
